Thoughts from Breaking Free by Beth Moore, Group Session 3 That You May Know
Isaiah 43:10 “You are My witnesses,” says the LORD, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.”
“Christ sets the captive free through truth.”
“Satan attempts to take the free captive through lies. (James 1:22-25)”
Equations that total liberty:
1. Environmental influences (good or bad) plus experiential influences (good or bad) equal MY TRUTH.
My illustration: My environment was good…good church, good school, good home…none of those broke my trust. But experientially one man was very untrustworthy in attitude and action…therefore MY TRUTH was deeply affected by that.
Other illustrations: Abuse, neglect, past abortion, child of alcoholic or drug abuser, etc. Sometimes churches broke children’s trust, either by someone in the church abusing a child, or by a church split that broke a child’s trust in relationships, or other situations. All of these become part of that adult child’s TRUTH.
2. MY TRUTH plus 0 (nothing else) equals incompletion!
I was stuck for a long time…but didn’t know it. Neither did I know what to do about it.
3. MY TRUTH plus Satan’s LIES equal CAPTIVITY.
“Any stronghold in our life will be connected to a lie!”
My captivity was that “History is going to repeat itself. All men are alike. Don’t trust. It’s a set-up for pain and betrayal.”

MY TRUTH (a girl has an abortion) plus SATAN’S LIES (God is going to take my living child) equals CAPTIVITY.
“We cannot recognize lies until we know God’s truth! Do I make room in my life for God’s Word? We may have to take some things out of our lives so that we have room.”
4. GOD’S TRUTH is greater than MY TRUTH.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
“God’s truth is that He has power to heal us.”
“ His truth is much greater than the power of our truth to destroy us.”
“Nothing is impossible to God.”
“He who began a good work in you will finish it.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
5. MY TRUTH plus GOD’S TRUTH equals FREEDOM.
“When we dare to adjust our lives to God’s Word we become liberated. Secular psychology only works with ‘our truth’.”
“Every time God is transfigured before us and we come to a new realization of who He is, we are confronted with the challenge of adjusting our lives to His truth.”
Some thoughts from Beth Moore about memory retrieval used by some psychologists:
It is a fact that our memories distort.
When past sexual abuse was suggested to Beth Moore, she knew it was true because it was the missing puzzle piece. She had all the other symptoms, all the other problems that come from abuse. Also other trustworthy people confirmed events and memories as she worked through them. It all fit together.
If you see images or have memories and they don’t fit the rest of your life, don’t believe it. The enemy and people can suggest things! Don’t go hunting. God will reveal truth. He will help you know what you need to know. (My thought…memories float up to the surface when they are ready to be healed. To me, that is a God thing)
Ask God if it’s true and if it fits!
(The Thoughts on Trust post is probably an example of me figuring out what was God’s truth and what was Satan’s lies.)
